Belinda Fox | Gratitude

17 November - 30 December 2021
Overview

Maybaum Gallery is pleased to present Gratitude, our third solo show for Australian artist Belinda Fox.

Gratitude is a celebration of all that we hold dear: memories of places, small wonders, and beauty in nature. It isn’t a grand gesture but a truthful expression of this moment in time where our garden becomes a world, and our family is held closer, and we wait for brighter days. Adapting her practice closer to home, Belinda Fox brings together elements of tradition, an artistic sensibility in her contemplation of our physical and metaphorical landscape, and a desire to find intimacy in what resides around us. Thus, this body of work is imbued with an ambition to document the small joys, to appreciate and revel in the everyday. With a technical mastery now characteristic of her work and a refusal of confinement to any one medium or form, Fox toes the line between abstraction and figuration, between intimacy and solitude, between the positive and the negative.

Belinda Fox is a multidisciplinary artist working in printmaking, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. Her work is in numerous permanent collections including the National Gallery of Australia; Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Netherlands; the Queen Victoria Museum, Tasmania; AMP Tokyo; and Janet Turner Print Museum, California.  Fox has lived and worked in Australia, Asia, and Europe and currently resides in Melbourne, Australia.  She has received grants for artist residencies in the USA, France, Greece, Singapore, Darwin, Perth, Sydney, and Tasmania. And she has participated in major survey exhibitions in the UK, China and Australia including solo shows in Berlin, Singapore, and Hong Kong.  Maybaum Gallery is her exclusive US representative.
