Andy Curlowe | Boundary Convergent: Artist Reception | Thursday, February 5th, 3-5 pm
We are existing within a world that is increasingly scared, more close-minded, and resistant to variation. This series seeks to celebrate differences and variation, alternatives within a creative process, and the narrative of the artist's hand. Life, environments, and communities stagnate in sameness, while new perspectives and convergence lead to discovery. Only the disparate can birth unexpected narrative.
A convergent boundary exists when tectonic plates come together. Friction evokes a change. Mountains rise. Violence erupts. Valleys form.
As a mid-career artist, Andy Curlowe continues an ongoing exploration of natural elements in metaphorical phases through a variety of media in an ever-growing body of work. Primarily created through a solitary, reflective state of process and at times with direct narrative, this series is a combination of honed practice infused with outside perspective, dialogue, and a convergence of creative media. The work seeks to welcome vulnerability and connection through reflection on the ever-evolving moment we find ourselves within. Now more than ever, the artist leans into mistakes and follows their lead, always striving to learn with eyes open to the changing landscape of our world. When the role of student and teacher remain fluid, says the artist, self awareness and growth are paramount.
