"I’m interested in capturing the impression of something; the essence of its character & soul. The sudden impact of a moment, when it’s impossible to ignore, has burned an image in my mind’s eye. The feeling is inexplicable, and I cannot walk away from it.
An image of the urban environment in any particular city, the shapes and colors the buildings make along a bright pink sky, get my heart racing. Likewise the bright pink petal of a cyclamen flower enmeshed in a tangle of dark green leaves, or the transparency of water trapped in a jar full of flowers; all these things give me the impulse to paint, to grab the immediacy of the image and get it down. Ultimately, it is the fascination with how to make the paint evolve into a conceivable image I find most engaging."
